C - Level Roundtable Overview
June 7, 2002
The
Digital
Sistas.net Quarterly C-Level Roundtable for executive
women in IT was held on Friday, June 7, 2002 at the Lincoln
University Urban Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
This "Unplugged"
event was facilitated by Brenda Wright, CIO of the Community
College of Philadelphia. The Roundtable provided African
American women executives with an opportunity to kick
back and participate in an off-line uncensored discussion.
The
group tackled issues facing African American women executives
and worked toward solutions. A variety of issues were
discussed. Some were gender specific, some were racially
charged, and some were professionally sensitive, while
others were a combination of them all. Notwithstanding,
all related to their work experience as executives.
Reflecting
the plethora of duties and challenges these women face,
'searching for balance' was of primary concern. According
to them, acknowledging that problems exist and working
to overcome them is tantamount to success. An executive
must lead in times of difficulty, learn from mistakes,
and move forward.
The
search for balance was not limited to the workplace, but
encompassed almost every area of their lives. They were
all trying to balance the physical, mental and spiritual
aspects of their lives. Balancing friends vs. family,
work vs. home, and values vs. protocol were just some
of the issues tackled.
Digitalsistas.net
sponsors C-Level Roundtable discussions on a quarterly
basis for African American women who are executives in
their corporations and organizations. It is the only regional
organization of its kind allowing CIOs, CTOs, CEOs and
their peers to share and evaluate IT solutions and exchange
ideas. (A C-Level executive is a CEO, CIO, CFO, CTO or
an executive director, deputy director, vice president
or senior vice president.) Future Roundtables will explore
a variety of critical technologies and management related
topics. The next Roundtable is scheduled for January.
Please check the website later this summer or early fall
for the date.
