What is ICDL?

The International Computer Driving License (ICDL) is a training and certification program designed to validate an individuals proficiency utilizing standard desktop computer applications. Two forms of certification are available, the ICDL Level 1 Full driver's license and the Job Readiness Certification or Starter's Permit.

Why is it called a driving license?

Similiar to driving a car, in order to operate a computer effectively, you must be proficient utlizing not only the computer hardware (the mouse, keyboard, printer and related components), but you must also be proficient in your ability to navigate around the standard software applications that you use to create business documents on a daily basis such as wordprocessing, presentation, database, spreadsheet and email software. The ICDL training and certification program assists you in doing just that!

The ICDL Full certification program consists of the successful completion of certification exams in 7 skill areas which is comprised of 7 modules:

Module 1: Basic Concepts of Information Technology
Module 2: Using a Computer & Managing Files

Module 3: Wordprocessing
Module 4: Spreadsheets
Module 5: Databases
Module 6: Presentations
Module 7: Information & Communication (Internet & Email)

The ICDL Job Readiness Certificate consists of successful completion of
3 modules
.

Module 2: Using a Computer & Managing Files
Module 3: Wordprocessing
Module 7: Information & Communication (Internet & Email)

Return on Investment (ROI)

Not only is ICDL an excellent tool for individuals, it also verifies whether individuals/employees are retaining information learned during computer training programs. This makes it an excellent tool for non-profit organizations, educational institutions, job training agencies and employers who are interested in determining whether they are receiving a "Return on Investment" (ROI) on current training initiatives. ICDL verifies whether the employees and/or students are retaining information learned and validates their ability to effectively put those skills learned to use in real-world / on the job situations. ICDL certification holders are more confident, productive computer users which results in less downtime.
